I use a simple technique to validate the performance of an opportunity.
Here's a demonstration:
I checked out this company and look what I found (see image below) - this is a company you DO want to be involved with:

I ALWAYS check opportunities out with Alexa these days - it gives you a good feel as to how well a companies doing and how old it is - Reality Millions is growing nicely:
